Do you prefer to leave the car at home?
Štrbské Pleso is easily accessible by train. All you need to do is sit down comfortably and enjoy the view of passing landscape from your window.
The main railway node is Poprad. From there, take a direct train or bus to Štrbské Pleso.
Arrive in Poprad via regular service from Bratislava and Košice. If traveling from the Czech Republic, get a direct international train from Prague. It is the fastest you can get from the Czech capital to the High Tatras.
Modern low-floor trains transport passengers between Poprad Tatry – Starý Smokovec – Štrbské Pleso, and Starý Smokovec – Tatranská Lomnica.
Since 1896, the rack railway is a very popular transport choice between Tatranská Štrba and Štrbské Pleso. The smiles it will put on your children’s faces will be a gentle and heart-warming reminder that joy is best found in the simplest moments.
The Tatra electric trains have enough room to accommodate your luggage, bicycles, as well as skis. Without an additional charge, you can bring along a stroller with a small child, skis or a snowboard.
You only pay for your bike €1.5, and for an extra-large luggage €1.

Before today’s rack railway, there was another model built back in 1896. It was the first time Štrbské Pleso was connected to the surrounding world by a train. Following railway electrification, the traditional rack railway gradually dwindled in importance and was closed in 1936.
It was not until 1970, at the occasion of FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, that the railway was brought back to life.
