Štrbské Pleso is home to one of the most beautiful sports areas in the whole of Slovakia. The way it looks today goes back to 1970 when the area was extended and enhanced in readiness for FIS Nordic World Ski Championships taking place there the same year. The ski jumps are part of the area. On 18 February 1970, a record-breaking one hundred thousand spectators watched competitors fly through the pristine mountain air above the treetops.
