The walk consists of 40 themed information boards both in Slovak and English. The trail is wheelchair accessible and is open all year round.

Begin

Start at the train station – the final stop of Tatra Electric Railway and the rack railway.

Climb the stony stairs on the right side of Hotel Toliar up to Hotel Kempinski. Turn left onto a tarmac road and walk to one of the best High Tatras lookouts where you can see the lake of Štrbské pleso (1,346 m above sea level) for the first time. It is the second largest mountain lake in the Slovak part of the High Tatras.

The moraine on its south-west shore offers an amazing view of the pristine dark blue surface of the lake, overseen by a towering mountain range of peaks. One of them – Vysoká, with its 2,547 metres above sea level is considered the most beautiful because of its shape resembling a royal crown. Also notice the ski jump tower and Hotel Patria.

The Low Tatras (Nízke Tatry) from the bird-eye’s view

A less known but as attractive as the first one, another lookout is just a stone’s throw away. Just cross the road and enjoy the fascinating view of the basin of Podtatranská kotlina and the Low Tatras. If you look down the steep slope, you will see a light-colored ribbon of the road Cesta slobody.

Start at the renovated hotel of Solisko. Until 1969, the Tatra Electric Railway used to have its final stop here. Set out on the promenade around the lake, clockwise. A few metres later, turn to a narrow peninsula where a memorial to fallen partisans stands.

When you get to the north-east shore of the lake, turn and follow the path running to Hotel Patria. It crosses a wide road with a parallel walking route. Then turn left and walk to Hotel FIS (1,360 m above sea level) where you should be able to see the well-known Skok Waterfall in the valley of Mlynická dolina. The ski jumps dominating the ski resort of Areál Snow are much closer. Then return back to the centre of the village.

Nové Štrbské pleso

On the main crossroad, turn left and walk down the road to Nové Štrbské pleso (1,315 m above sea level). The southern shore of the smaller and lower mountain lake offers a wonderful view as well. To get back to the village of Štrbské Pleso, follow the path along the northern shore of the lake. The train station is right behind a spruce grove.
